So the girl from District 2 won? I couldn't care less. That fact's not gonna help me survive the Quarter Quell. Honestly, I don't believe there's any hope for me. Or any hope for my mother now that I'm leaving her.
I would be deemed insane if I said that I wasn't afraid. Of course I was afraid. But not only for myself. How can my mother survive without me? She's already so sick... How could I ever survive without her? She's given me everything. Straight down to the auburn hair that has the district boys fawning over me. Not that any of that matters, because the only boy who would be of any use is going into these games with me. Odds are, we'll both lose. The best I can do is shoot. And that's mediocre at best.
Growing up, I've always thought Panem was a bit sick and twisted. When I was around 12, when my name first got put into the reaping, I finally stopped worrying about it. For four years now, I've just been worried about my mom.
I've also been studying into what kind of world we had before this, thinking it may help me with the position I'm in. So far I've found that there was a thing called religion. Where basically, people believed that there was a greater being out there. I learned all of this from Ratchet, a retired Peacekeeper who helps out my mom sometimes when I'm hunting.
